This churchyard spreads across four acres abutting Maughold Head. Scattered among the Celtic-style crosses and other gravestones are remnants of four stone keeils, dating from the 6th century, the earliest, most primitive form of church or monastery buildings. Kirk Maughold was erected in the 12th century, and despite alterations, retains two of its original sandstone windows. In The Seducer, several scenes take place at the church, both inside and outside.
The simple church bearing Maughold's name had a lofty spire with a bell, and was surrounded by the largest burial ground in the isle.
