I've had mixed luck with centifolias. They were popularly known as "Cabbage Roses" from the full, many-petaled flowers. They first appeared in the late 15th century, and were immortalised and popularised by the Dutch flower painters of the 17th century.
As its name implies, Petite de Hollande (circa 1800) has a very small bloom, nor more than an inch or so in diameter. Unfortunately, it doesn't thrive in my garden.
My best luck with centifolias is represented by the magnificent Shailer's Provence (circa 1790-96), the queen of my garden. My mother rooted a cutting for me--which has know grown and spread into several enormous, floriferous shrubs. Another variety I grow is, Rose de Peintres--Rose of the Painters--survives winter but rarely blooms. Next Rose > > > < < < Roses Menu All Rights Reserved. |
