Bourbon roses, offsprings of the tender China roses, are not supposed to thrive in cold climates. The ones I grow die down to the ground in winter, but they always rise up in spring and bloom repeatedly in the summer.
I've adored Souvenir de la Malmaison since my childhood. It clambers up the bricks of my parents' house and grew up around my bedroom window--I felt like a princess in a rose bower when it was in full bloom! On its creation in 1843, it was named after the palace where the rose-long Empress Josephine had her extensive and very famous gardens. I grow the shrub version instead of the climbing one.
Honorine de Brabant is a striped Bourbon. Other Bourbons I grow are Reine de Victoria and Province Panachée (striped). Next Rose > > > < < < Roses Menu All Rights Reserved. |
