William and Mary were keen gardeners, and over time they created fashionably formal grounds around their London residence. Although the gardens at Kensington House, as it was called, never matched the splendour of Hampton Court, they were quite impressive. Only period artwork reveal the original landscape, which has been drastaically altered, but the grounds are attractive and pleasant to explore. I had an opportunity to watch the gardeners at work.

This red tree received a great deal of attention and comment from visiors. Lots of people wanted pose next to it for photographs! I was called into service as photographer.

Nowadays Kensington Palace is most closely associated with Queen Victoria, who spent her childhood here. And Diana, Princess of Wales, who lived here and whose popularity is celebrated by a special display.
My interest in William and Mary led me away from London, all the way to the Netherlands.
